What:
ESPN 3D is the television industry’s first 3D network and brings together more than three years of research and development by multiple departments throughout the company.
Key Dates:
- ESPN’s first 3D telecast was the USC at Ohio State University college football game on Sept. 12, 2009.
- ESPN announces on January 5, 2010 that it will launch a 3D network to bring 3D to fans in their homes
- ESPN 3D is launched on June 11, 2010 with the first FIFA 2010 World Cup game (South Africa vs. Mexico)
- On Feb. 14, 2011, the network went from showing event-based telecasts to airing content all day, every day.
TV Network Programming:
ESPN has produced more than 200 3D domestic telecasts, including:
- BCS National Championship game
- the Masters
- X Games
- Multiple college football and basketball games
- State Farm Home Run Derby
Distribution:
ESPN 3D is available nationwide to more than 60 million households and has carriage agreements with Comcast, DIRECTV, Time Warner Cable and Verizon FiOS.
