- BASS, the worldwide authority on bass fishing, was purchased by ESPN in 2001 and is headquartered in Celebration, Fla.
- BASS is both a tournament and membership organization serving more than 500,000 members.
- BASS produces three industry-leading publications: Bassmaster Magazine, BASS Times and Fishing Tackle Retailer. Bassmaster.com continues to be the dedicated home for all things BASS and bass fishing.
- BASS sanctions the most prestigious levels of professional tournament fishing, including the Bassmaster Elite Series and Bassmaster Classic.
- BASS was founded by Ray Scott in 1968 and has flourished for more than 40 years.
- BASS introduced the catch-and-release ethic to sportfishing in 1972, setting the standard for fishing tournaments.
- The Bassmaster Classic continues to provide a significant economic impact for the cities and regions that host it. In 2009, more than 130,000 people – a Classic record – attended some facet of the Classic, held on the Red River with functions including the Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo in Shreveport-Bossier City, La.
- BASS has been featured by the CBS Evening News, USA Weekend, USA Today, Parade Magazine, New York Times and SportsBusiness Journal among others.
- ESPN2 carries many hours of outdoors-related programming, including a one-hour show, The Bassmasters, devoted to each Bassmaster Elite Series event.
- BASS’ grass-roots division, the BASS Federation Nation, is composed of local members who are passionate about tournament fishing, youth initiatives and conservation. The group supports BASS at a local level and is represented by more than 20,000 members.
- Then-Vice President George H. W. Bush and then-Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton attended the 1984 Bassmaster Classic. Two Classic champions, Mark Davis and 2008 Classic champion, Alton Jones, have received presidential invitations to the White House.
- In 2009, for the first time in history, a female angler competed in the Classic.
- BASS anglers at the highest tournament levels feature wrapped boats and tow trucks, which provide unique marketing and brand-building opportunities.
