Connecticut, Maryland to Participate in 2012 Jimmy V Women’s Classic

ESPN, in conjunction with The V Foundation for Cancer Research, announces that the University of Connecticut and University of Maryland will be the 2012 participants in the Jimmy V Women’s Classic, to be held Monday, Dec. 3 and televised on ESPN2. The 11th annual game will take place at one of UConn’s two playing facilities – the XL Center in Hartford or Gampel Pavilion in Storrs. The event will fall on the night before the men’s Jimmy V Classic from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The game will mark the first time these two storied programs hit the court against each other. The Huskies will be making their fifth appearance in the Jimmy V Women’s Classic, while the Terrapins will appear for the second time, and first since 2007. The BIG EAST will be placing its eighth team in the annual event, while the ACC secures its 11th program.

This year’s event, tonight, Dec. 6, features the national champions from the last three years, pitting the 2011 national winner Texas A&M against the 2009 & 2010 title holder Connecticut.
