Vice President and Executive Producer, ESPN Content Development
Joan Lynch is Vice President and Executive Producer of ESPN’s Content Development group, the company’s award-winning original programming banner. Lynch’s group is focused on building brands and developing content across ESPN platforms and her oversight encompasses show development, budget and production of scripted and unscripted programming with multiple crossover content applications. Serving both the passionate sports fan and the more casual viewer, the Content Development group strives to expand ESPN's already industry-leading offerings in live events, sports news, and entertainment programming.
Lynch was heavily involved with establishing the ESPN Films brand as a home for sports narrative, including the development of the Peabody Award-winning and Emmy-nominated 30 for 30 series, and her team has also launched some of the channel’s more popular programming such as Sport Science and SportsNation, hosted by Michelle Beadle and Colin Cowherd.
Lynch joined the department in June 2005 as a coordinating producer where she oversaw the creative execution of a variety of projects. She was named executive producer for the department in 2006. Lynch is a highly decorated television and film executive whose accomplishments include two George Foster Peabody Awards, a NAMIC Vision Award, a Sports Emmy Award, a Television Academy Honors Award, a Women in Telecommunications Signature Accolade Award, two Gracie Awards for Excellence, multiple Cable FAX Awards and multiple Webbies.
Lynch started her career making her way through the production ranks at ABC News. She worked as a field producer and went on to develop new programming for ABC News' digital media group where she earned a 2004 Standard of Excellence WebAward for her efforts. Previously, Lynch served as Yahoo’s chief of New York operations and video where she and her team were awarded a Columbia School of Journalism Award for "Innovative Presentation of Information".
In addition to her role at ESPN, Lynch is very involved in supporting charities that are close to her heart. Over the past 20 years, she has done numerous international mission trips throughout the world to help provide training and shelter for the needy. She is a supporter of World Vision, Right to Play, and serves on the Board of Directors for the non-profit organization Save the Team.
Lynch is a graduate of Fordham University and is based in ESPN’s Los Angeles office.
