ESPN Commercial Features True Story of Ole Miss and Admiral Ackbar of Rebel Alliance
A short time ago, in a land not so far away, the Ole Miss Rebels faced the tall task of selecting a new on-field mascot. A group of industrious and passionate students nominated and campaigned for Admiral Ackbar – the decorated commander of the Rebel Alliance fleet from Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. In the latest spot from ESPN’s brand campaign, “It’s Not Crazy, It’s Sports,” ESPN takes a closer look at this unique and true story.
In addition to 30- and 60-second TV spots, ESPN has created a four-minute, in-depth video. The TV spot debuted during the Boise State vs. Virginia Tech game Sept. 6, and the longer version will be available via ESPN’s YouTube channel. The commercial will receive support through promotional banners on ESPN.com that will lead fans to the long-form video. Watch the video here.
