Fernando Schwartz
Fernando Schwartz, a veteran sports journalist, joined ESPN in November 2009 as an analyst for Fuera de Juego and contributor for all of the network’s platforms. As one of the most recognized sports journalists in Mexico and the United States, Schwartz brings his vast experience to ESPN’s show Fuera De Juego, covering some of the world’s largest soccer leagues including Italy’s Serie A, Spain’s First Division, and Germany’s Bundesliga.
Schwartz traveled to South Africa to cover the 2010 FIFA World Cup, serving as a reporter assigned to cover the U.S. National Team for ESPN Deportes.
For more than 32 years, Schwartz has built an impressive broadcasting career as a reporter, analyst, commentator, and announcer, covering some of the world’s most popular sporting events including seven FIFA World Cups, nine Olympic games, World Boxing Championships, Pan-American games, college games, and interviews with some of the most famous sports figures in the world.
Throughout his career, Schwartz has been awarded with several sports awards, including the Palmas de Oro for Best Sports Anchor in 1988, Sol de Oro’s Best Reporter in 1990 and the Mexico City Honor’s Best Sports anchor in 1995.
Prior to joining ESPN, Schwartz served as a sports reporter and commentator for Televisa, Univision Network, Diario Fox Sports and Telemundo Networks. Throughout his career he has also served as a radio personality for Fútbol de Primera, Mexico’s RED & XEQ, as well as Mexico’s Radio 13 where he currently serves as a commentator for the daily sports news. Schwartz also currently has a sports column on Mexico’s ESTO newspaper.
A native of Mexico, Schwartz earned a bachelor’s in Communications from the University of Carlos Septien Garcia. He is also an accomplished writer, having written such books as “La Historia de las Copas del Mundo” and “El Libro Olímpico.”
