ESPN’s Weeklong Super Bowl XLIV Coverage Starts Monday

ESPN’s weeklong, on-site coverage of Super Bowl XLIV in South Florida will begin Monday, Feb. 1, at 6 a.m. ET with ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike in the Morning (simulcast on ESPN2). ESPN’s overall Super Bowl-related programming will include more than 80 hours of domestic television and more than 55 hours of ESPN Radio content, a majority of which will originate Feb. 1-7 from two ESPN set locations at Lummus Park in the heart of Miami Beach.
Other on-site programs will include daily editions of SportsCenter, NFL Live, Rome is Burning, Around the Horn (on-site panelists), and Pardon the Interruption with Michael Wilbon and guests. In addition to Mike & Mike, ESPN Radio’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd and The Scott Van Pelt Show with Van Pelt and Ryen Russillo will air live from South Florida throughout the week and simulcast daily on ESPNU and ESPN2, respectively.
More than 30 ESPN on-air commentators will be in South Florida in preparation for the Colts-Saints matchup. ESPN television and radio programs all week will also feature special guests and experts to capture the excitement surrounding Super Bowl XLIV.

The second installment of the inside access program Hey Rookie, Welcome to the NFL will air Monday, Feb. 1 at 11 p.m. on ESPN2. Produced by NFL Films, the special documents the experiences of four NFL rookies – New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin, Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing, and Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford – through their first season. Among the featured rookies Sanchez and Harvin helped lead their teams to the conference championships, and Cushing was Defensive Rookie of the Year. The show will re-air Feb. 3 and 4, at 3 a.m. on ESPN2.
College GameDay and Saturday Primetime Feature Intrastate Showdown: No. 2 Kansas at No. 13 Kansas State

ESPN’s College GameDay Driven by State Farm® and Saturday Primetime Presented by DirecTV Game of the Week series will originate Jan. 30 from Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan., for the Big 12 matchup of No. 2 Kansas and No. 13 Kansas State. Two one-hour segments of the show will air at 11 a.m. and at 6 p.m. The game will air on ESPN at 7 p.m. The College GameDay crew includes host Rece Davis with analysts Jay Bilas, Digger Phelps and Hubert Davis. The Saturday Primetime commentator team will feature Dan Shulman, Dick Vitale and Erin Andrews.
Men’s College Basketball: Five of Top Six Ranked Teams Lead Action

The men’s college basketball schedule for Feb. 1-3 will feature seven teams in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 poll in action, including No. 1 Kentucky, No. 2 Kansas and No. 3 Villanova, as well as two games between ranked opponents. Highlights:
- ESPN’s Big Monday Presented by Bud Light Feb. 1 will tip off at 7 p.m. with the BIG EAST matchup of No. 19 Connecticut at Louisville.
- Super Tuesday Presented by KFC on ESPN will include No. 20 Mississippi at No. 1 Kentucky at 7 p.m., followed by No. 5 Michigan State at No. 16 Wisconsin at 9 p.m. Seton Hall visits No. 3 Villanova at 7 p.m. on ESPNU.

NBA on ABC Tips off Regular Sunday Schedule

The NBA on ABC starts a regular Sunday Game of the Week schedule Jan. 31 with a doubleheader involving some of the league’s elite teams – Denver at San Antonio at 1 p.m., followed by a rivalry game when the Boston Celtics host the Los Angeles Lakers at 3:30 p.m. Dan Shulman will call the Denver/San Antonio game with analyst Hubie Brown and reporter Lisa Salters. Mike Breen will team with analysts Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy and reporter Doris Burke in providing commentary for Lakers/Celtics. GMC NBA Countdown will preview the matchups at 12:30 p.m.
Ex-Contender Brinkley to Fight in Main Event of Friday Night Fights

Jesse Brinkley, once a competitor on The Contender, will take on Curtis Stevens on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights Jan. 29 at 10 p.m. on ESPN2. The fighters -- vying for the No. 2 ranking in the super middleweight division -- will fight in a 12-round IBF eliminator bout. Brinkley (34-5, 22 KOs) of Yerington, Nev., has won eight consecutive fights; however, the younger Stevens (21-2, 15 KOs) provides a formidable challenge. The fight will originate from Reno, Nev., just 45 minutes from Brinkley’s hometown.
Joe Tessitore will call the action ringside with boxing legend Teddy Atlas. During breaks in the action, Brian Kenny will host from the studio and with Bernardo Osuna, a winner of the prestigious Sam Taub Award for excellence in broadcast journalism presented by the Boxing Writer’s Association of America.

The 2010 Winter Fantasy Sports Trade Association Business Conference met this week in Las Vegas and honored ESPN Fantasy in four categories at the 2010 FSTA Industry Recognition Awards, including:
- Best Video Podcast for ESPN Fantasy Focus;
- Best Fantasy Sports Broadcast Presentation for Fantasy Football Now;
- Unique Contest for ESPN Streak For The Cash;
- Online Draft Style Contest for ESPN League Manager.
The awards are voted on by 175 members of the FSTA, which was founded in 1997 and is the oldest and most prestigious nonprofit fantasy sports trade association in the United States.
PBA One A Day Dick Weber Open Sunday on ESPN2

PBA Hall of Famer Norm Duke will try to defend his One A Day Dick Weber Open title live Sunday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. on ESPN2. Rob Stone will handle play-by-play with analyst Randy Pedersen from the Fountain Bowl in Fountain Valley, Calif. The tournament begins today, Jan. 27, with the top five advancing to Sunday’s stepladder finals.
