Motorsport Producer  

The producer for ESPN’s telecasts of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, as well as selected NASCAR Nationwide Series and IZOD IndyCar Series races, Jamie Shiftan is responsible for the overall look and feel of the telecasts. Sitting in the production trailer in the TV compound at the racetrack, Shiftan must make thousands of instant decisions during the course of a 3.5-hour telecast, coordinating a team of more than 200 people. 

Shiftan has been a sports producer since 1995 and has worked on nearly every form of televised sports. After one year at NBC News Channel in Charlotte, Shiftan joined Creative Sports (the forerunner of ESPN Regional Television) in Charlotte to work on college football and basketball telecasts. From 1996 through 1998, he was part of the original weekly production crew for the ESPN motorsports program rpm2night, working as a production assistant and associate producer. 

In 1998, Shiftan relocated to ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, Conn., and was an associate producer in event production for ESPN Speedworld, including telecasts of NASCAR, IndyCar and IROC. He earned several Emmy nominations during the period and also worked on the ESPN telecasts of the X Games and ESPYs. 

He left ESPN in 2000 and worked as a freelancer on NHRA drag racing telecasts before joining NBC and TNT as a producer and feature producer for NASCAR coverage. He was nominated for six Emmys and won two. While with NBC he also produced coverage of the International Auto Show in Detroit as well as golf, arena football and college and high school football.   

In 2006 he rejoined ESPN as the producer for IndyCar Series racing and produced Super Bowl After Dark that aired on ESPN2. With NASCAR’s return to the ESPN networks in 2007, he produced NASCAR Nationwide Series telecasts, worked as pit producer on NASCAR Sprint Cup races and produced the NASCAR Countdown pre-race show until being named Sprint Cup producer for 2011. 

Shiftan graduated from Roanoke College in Virginia.
