Ivan Maisel

Ivan Maisel is a senior writer for ESPN.com, covering college football.  In addition, he appears on ESPNEWS, ESPN Radio (where he is a weekly guest on the Colin Cowherd Show during the fall) and the ESPNU College Football Insider podcasts.  Maisel hosts a regular podcast with Beano Cook, which airs weekly from August through January and monthly the rest of the year.

Prior to joining ESPN.com in November 2002, Maisel served as a senior writer for Sports Illustrated and CNNSI.com for five years.  Maisel also covered national college sports for Newsday from 1994 to 1997, for The Dallas Morning News from 1987 to 1994, and as a columnist for The Sporting News.  His 22 seasons on the national college football beat is the longest uninterrupted tenure of any writer in the country.

Maisel has been honored three times for Best Story by the Football Writers Association of America, most recently in 2006 for an ESPN.com feature about the effects of Hurricane Katrina on the Tulane football program.  He also shared an award for the Best Enterprise Story from the Associated Press Sports Editors while at Newsday.  He served as president of the Football Writers Association of America in 1995.

Maisel is the co-author of A War in Dixie, Alabama v. Auburn (HarperCollins, 2001) and has written The Maisel Report: The Most Overrated and Underrated Players, Coaches, Games, Stadiums, and Traditions in College Football, to be published by Triumph Books in the fall of 2008. Maisel earned a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Stanford University and is a graduate of Murphy High in Mobile, Ala.
