Luke Jensen

Former tennis pro Luke Jensen – nicknamed “Dual Hand Luke” for his ability to play both left and right handed – joined ESPN as an analyst and roving reporter in 1994.  His role is most prominent during ESPN2’s extensive coverage of Grand Slam events, where he serves a roving reporter, covering action throughout the venue and interviewing fans.  This role allows his boisterous and fun-loving personality to shine.  He also appears as a studio and makes frequent appearances on SportsCenter, ESPNEWS, ESPN Radio, ESPN.com and ESPN360.

Much of his success on the court came in doubles, often teamed with his twin (and younger) brother, Murphy.  In singles, Luke won the Boys 18s Nationals, Claycourts and Hardcourts in U.S. in 1984 and received All-American honors in 1985 and again in 1986 in singles and doubles (teaming with Patrick McEnroe).  He attended the University of Southern California from 1986-1987 and earned singles All-American honors both years and doubles in 1987.  Jensen turned professional in 1989, and injuries promptly hampered his career.  It was when he once tore a ligament and broke a bone in his right thumb that he took up playing left-handed.  In 1993, he and Murphy won the French Open doubles title.  Later that year, he achieved his career-high doubles ranking, sixth.  In his pro career, Jensen won 10 ATP doubles titles.

Although Jensen’s pro career may not rank with those of Sampras, Agassi or Borg, in one way he will go down in tennis history with a record that surpasses those legends’ accomplishments.  With an early round mixed doubles victory on Centre Court at Wimbledon in 1996 to his credit, Jensen stands undefeated – a perfect 1-0 – on tennis’ most hallowed ground.  “I’m never going to play there again,” Jensen deadpans.  “I believe in going out on top.”

The Michigan native was born June 18, 1966.
