Terry Blount

Terry Blount joined ESPN.com in October 2006 after 25 years as an award-winning sports reporter and columnist. In his role, he helps lead and shape ESPN.com’s coverage of NASCAR and other racing series.

Blount previously covered auto racing at the Dallas Morning News from 2001 to 2006, and served as a sportswriter for the Houston Chronicle from 1990-2001 and the Houston Post from 1981-1990. In his time at the Chronicle, he covered motorsports along with the Houston Oilers, Houston Astros and Big 12 football and basketball.  

Blount also covered many major sporting events at the Chronicle, including six Super Bowls, three World Series, two NBA finals, five Daytona 500s, five Indy 500s, two heavyweight championship fights, three Cotton Bowls, the Rose Bowl and two Final Fours.

In his time at the Post, Blount was a beat writer for the Houston Astros, Houston Rockets, professional boxing and pro tennis. While there, he wrote about two World Series, two Finals Fours, two Bluebonnet Bowls, the Goodwill Games and the Olympic Festival.

Blount has earned numerous writing honors, including the Citation for Writing Excellence from Hearst Newspapers and the Excellence in Journalism Award from the Houston Press Club.

He is a member of the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association and the former president of the Houston Chapter for the Baseball Writers Association of America.

He is the author of The Blount Report: NASCAR's Most Overrated and Underrated Drivers, Cars, Teams, and Tracks, which was published in 2009.

He is an honors graduate of the University of Houston with a bachelor’s of art degree in radio/television communications.
